1. Download Online Updates
Online Updates must be downloaded to the server directly via the Portal Manager. You can choose the installation source from the Extras menu / Online update. If the Intrexx server is connected to the internet, you can use the default setting “Download via HTTP”. With this option, all pending Online Updates are downloaded automatically; you will then be asked if you want to install them. If the server is not connected to the internet, you can use the setting “Installation from .zip file on server” to provide the Online Updates via a ZIP file (s. 1.png).
The corresponding ZIP file is available under “Online Update” in the Support Center (https://help.unitedplanet.com).

If your network is protected via a proxy or firewall, your EDP system must ensure that Intrexx is allowed to establish a connection to the internet; a proxy may need to be entered for this. Otherwise, Intrexx can be used almost to its full extent without an internet connection. You simply have to installed Online Updates manually via the ZIP files, as described here.

2. Install Online Updates
It is important that Online Updates are always installed as the administrator. Before installing updates, open the Manager by right-clicking on the Manager and selecting “Run as administrator”. After installing the Online Updates, you always need to republish the concerned applications, processes and layouts. As of Intrexx Version 19.03, these are republished automatically, but you need to check whether errors occurred by reviewing the files portal.log, publishallapplications.log and publishallprocesses.log – these can be found in the directory <portal>/log/. You should also receive a notification about this after installing the Online Updated.

2.1 Publish all applications and processes (not required for versions ≥ 19.03)
Refer to Article 2745 Online Updates | Publish all applications and processes via Batch
or
Refer to Article 2738 Online Updates | Publish all applications and processes via CMD

2.2 Publish all layouts (not required for versions ≥ 19.03)
Layouts need to be republished manually in the Manager, meaning you need to open and then save each layout.

2.3. Restart Intrexx services (Windows services / Linux services)
Once all applications, processes and layouts have been published, you should restart all Intrexx services. Normally, only the portal services are affected, however, we recommend restarting all Intrexx services at once. Depending on the adjustments made by the Online Update, web elements may also be affected, therefore, we recommended emptying your browser cache.

3. What is the difference between the client and the server manager?
The Online Updates from Intrexx (meaning from United Planet) must always be downloaded directly by the Manager on the Intrexx server (the server where Intrexx is installed). Only when the Online Updates are installed on the server manager can the manager updates be installed on the client PCs because these updates are not downloaded from the internet but rather from the Intrexx server (in the network).

A client installation (Manager on a client PC) cannot install Online Updates without being connected to a server installation (Intrexx installation on the Intrexx server) as they are always taken from this installation. There is no option available to perform the update on the client via the console or similar.

4. Does the Online Update status of the manager and server matter?
It is very important that the Manager used to edit the portal has the same Online Update status as the server itself. If there are differences, the Manager will warn you about this, and you should under no circumstances make changes to the portal (applications, processes, layouts, etc.). Please keep the status the same on both systems.

5. Can you install Online Updates without hesitating?
To ensure that there are no issues after installing an Online Update or to prevent possible errors caused by an Online Update, we always recommended creating an appropriate data backup of your system. It would even be ideal if you tested the Online Update on a test system beforehand.
